A man can only have one great love, and mine was the sea.
Until I pulled a half-drowned heiress out of the water. Until I kept her as mine. Until I hurt her to prove I didn’t love her.
Now we’re surrounded. Dangerous pirates want to use her for their own purposes. I won’t give her up that easy. I have a lifetime of treasure to protect. But with the ship going down, there’s only one thing I want to save. Her.
A Deal with the Devil is book two in the Devil trilogy by USA Today bestselling author Amelia Wilde. The Devil and the Deep Blue Sea must be read first.
Our second book, A Deal With The Devil, opens with a prologue on Poseidon from 33 years ago at a church with his mother As he sits idly contemplating, obsessing, dreaming of the sea, and not knowing what is about to be and happen with his mother.
The first book ended with Poseidon’s boat, the Trident, being surrounded by a sea-gang of bounty hunters having been sent by Ashley’s father to come collect her vice paying Poseidon the ransom he requested. He had originally saved her adrift in the ocean, while he is perpetually on the hunt for specific pearls.
I definitely have to say truly had a Stockholm syndrome style moment. With Poseidon having done a brutal thing to Ashley, and her still falling into his grasp and world.
I do absolutely love the analogical usage of the ocean and see when it comes to the emotional, mental, and physical clash in between the two.
Betrayal is in the atmosphere from more than one source as Ashley heals and comes to grip with her reality. Sacrifices are burning them apart and together when the cliffhanger ending occurs.
