Erno Laszlo

First, a history lesson on Erno Laszlo:

Having perfected the world’s most coveted complexions from Europe to Hollywood, Dr. Erno Laszlo brought his bespoke skincare philosophy to New York City in 1927. There, he introduced his storied clients – from Greta Garbo and Jackie O. to Audrey Hepburn and Marilyn Monroe – to his signature double cleanse and cultivated the brand’s customized approach to skincare.

I received their White Marble Bright Face Powder Mask complimentary for testing.

A mix-to-activate lightening, brightening and hydrating modeling mask that clarifies the skin as it fights the appearance of dark spots, illuminates, quenches thirsty skin, cools and instantly plumps.

Made with plant extracts that contain hydrating properties and promotes advanced skin brightening for a more luminous and radiant complexion.

The mix-to-activate is done by mixing the Step 1 and Step 2 packs together; I recommend a non-porous bowl like metal and the kit contains a plastic spatula of a sort to mix the contents together.

The box contains ingredients to make 4 single-application treatment masks; there are four silver foil packs of each step.

(1) Mix powder and liquid phase to activate preparation.

(2) Apply to cleansed skin avoiding eye area, hairline and mouth.  Application should ONLY last 45 seconds at the most.

(3) Allow the mask to dry for 15 to 20 minutes.

(4) Peel downwards to reveal a freshened complexion.

(5) Splash face with warm water to remove any residue.

I admit to being skeptical and a felt a bit weird by the initial chemical reaction but, none more so than when I applied it to my face.  I was expecting a peel-off type mask from reading the directions but it I felt like I was applying a mix between pudding and tapioca instead.

I had no clue what to expect from this brightening mask and was trying to figure out how it hardened; it “hardens” into a rubbery, gelatinous mask.  If you have ever done an aloe sheet mask this feels about as cool and “wet” as those but with no dripping.  It was an instantaneous cooling, especially after having done a steam facial right before it.

Cleaning up the spatula and bowl was a breeze; I just waited for it to form the gelatinous mask and peeled everything clean.  As for my face, peeling off was just as easy and my skin notably felt refreshed.

Step 1 Ingredients:  Water, glycerin, algin, undaria pinnatifida extract, phenoxyethanol, hydrogenated castor oil, caprlyl glycol, chlorphensin, propylene glycol, licorice, parfum, citrus lemon extract, thriethanolamine.

Step 2 Ingredients:  Datomaceous earth, glucose, calcium sulfate hydrate, algin, distarch phosphate, tetrasodium pyrophosphate, titanium dioxide, sodium ascorbate, magnesium oxide, jojoba oil, parfum.

Licorice Extract is used for its health benefits as far back as ancient China, naturally brightens the appearance of dark spots.

Lemon Extract removes dead skin cells and stimulates new growth, deeply cleansing and brightening the skin.

Jojoba Seed Oil is remarkably rich in skin-loving nutrients that hydrate, soothe, balance and protect the integrity of skin.

Formulated without parabens, mineral oil and phthalates.  Made in France and distributed from New York.

Items of interest I found lacking was the information pertaining to the following:

Natural ingredients, organic ingredients, cruelty free, routine time frame and expiration.

These were nowhere on the packaging nor contents.

What to do?

I went hunting on their website!

We have never tested our ingredients or final formulations on animals and we have no intention of doing so in future. That said to ensure the efficacy of our products every ingredient is carefully considered to ensure that it meets our high standards of quality, safety and effectiveness. While we are committed to avoiding testing on animals we acknowledge that in some jurisdictions both the formulations and ingredients may have been tested by government affiliates. We continue to lobby for change in these practices as we believe the cosmetic industry has a responsibility to protect the well-being of animals.

ROUTINE Use as needed, as part of your White Marble treatment ritual.

While not all questions have been answered, these are not show stoppers.  I would use this mask again; the hydration is amazing!

What type of masks do you like to use as part of your skincare routine?

  1. I’ve not yet done a mask. I had no idea Erno Laszlo has been around that long – wow! This would be fun to do with another friend or two!
