Memorial Day is officially a federal holiday in the United States for remembering the people who died while serving in the country’s armed forces.

Memorial Day “unofficially” kicks off the summer celebrations and many states’ schools let out around this time frame.

Memorial Day should not to be confused with Veterans Day; Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving, while Veterans Day celebrates the service of all U.S. military veterans.

It was originally called “Decoration Day” which is what I am leaning more towards in this blog post.

  1. I some years, I’ve memorialized the day by joining the group placing flags at the graves at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery. Other years with family. All years with gratefully remembering all the sacrifice through so many generations.
